“V
accines historically have been the single most important tool for controlling epidemics. With an ongoing commitment to HIV vaccine research, we have the potential to radically change the trajectory of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.”
Anthony S. Fauci, M.D., Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious disease
The officers, board and staff, with the exception of Dan Guinn, have AIDS Network as their sole point of reference when it comes to ASO provided HIV/AIDS services in Wisconsin. The agency has operated for more than twenty five years and I would hazard a guess that less than a handful of officers, directors or staff during that entire period have made the trip to Milwaukee to observe how ARCW operates.
I have been reviewing the archives of former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop. He played a huge role in the early days of the AIDS epidemic, especially in light of the unwillingness of the Reagan administration to address the emerging public health crisis.
The daunting odds that Dr. Koop was up against are demonstrated in this short video; a part of the oral history of his years as Surgeon General

On April 26th, I wrote about the changes that were forthcoming with WisconsinHIV.com.
With the updated site you will notice a few immediate changes.
First, the site will become about more than HIV. While it will remain one of the focal points, there will also be other items that I will write about. In other words, the scope of the site is expanding.
As I wrote in my April 26th post, we have seen AIDS Network make efforts to increase the level of services provided to the HIV/AIDS community in southern Wisconsin. For that, they are to be congratulated.
We are also witnessing an admirable effort on the part of Executive Director Dan Guinn to mend fences with ARCW.
