Last week’s Badger Herald article gave the friends of AIDS Network a long awaited opportunity to spew venom at me and Bob Bowers for simply asking that the disparity of service issue be addressed in an open and honest manner. We hope getting their frustrations out was cathartic and that they will now be able to look at the fundamental truths that remain.
Let’s take a look at a few of the comments:
By reading this article it sounds a lot like a couple whiners in the group, says anonymous.
Who is on the hate campaign?
Anonymous continues :”Why also do people with hiv get special treatment that consists of a private food pantry, special dentist, etc.. when a person with another life threatening disease (cancer, diabetes, etc) with no health insurance will most likely need to file bankruptcy. Im not sure but it appears that milward and bowars just like to blow their own horn to me.”
Mark Powell stated that “Mr. Millward must be really grasping at straws if he is soliciting this paper to run a story on his misguided crusade (something tells me Ms. Puissant was not following this “story” independent of Mr. Millward’s persistent advances). Even so, it is obvious that Mr. Millward has to advance the narrative and bother college students and others in order to save face in front of his acolyte, Mr. Bowers, and a small band of impressionable ACTUP puppets”
Who is on the hate campaign?
(FYI–I met Ms. Puissant for the first time last Saturday. Our first contact by telephone was the day before on Friday, January 30th. To impugn her integrity and dismiss the Badger Herald as irrelevant is unconscionable)
“Don’t you think AIDS Network is better positioned to understand the needs of their clients based on client feedback and not the ravings of one individual (and his lackey)?
Who is on the “hate campaign?
“What amazes me is that Bowers sits back, watches and supports Milward. He says he has “no vested interest” on whether AIDS Network or ARCW does the work? That is a lie in my opinion. His HIVictorious received funds from ARCW, most recently from their AIDS walk. That is vested to me. I find it so disappointing that Bowers organization and his board members are tied to Milward and ACT Up. He’s let Milward ruin his reputation and the work of HIVictorious. At the same time, ARCW keeps enabling Milward too by feeding him information on how soon they could come in and take over. Classy. They can’t even get it right in Milwaukee, yet they want the entire state.”
Who is on the “hate campaign?
Justifying the comments with individual responses would be a waste of time. Wisconsinhiv.com and actup-wisconsin.com have provided the objective data that backs up our thesis: AIDS Network is a failed agency. The subjective rantings of mostly anonymous commenters that attack Bob and me are to be expected. If their “subjective” comments had substance we could engage in a healthy and respectful discussion of the issues.
Karen Dotson was quoted in the article as saying that it “feels like ACT UP and particularly Milward are on a hate-campaign against the agency”.
Accusing us of the “campaign” she is orchestrating is a desperate attempt to divert attention from the real issues at play. It is becoming clearer every day that Karen Dotson and her band of followers are orchestrating a campaign of hate directed and me, Bob Bowers and anyone else that dares to provide objective data that supports the immediate defunding of AIDS Network.
After all, it’s easier to spread hate than respond to the truth. It’s good to see Karen is succeeding at one thing.
